View Full Version : STANDARD rear seat measurements anyone?

I searched a little and I THINK I know what the measurements for the lower section of the rear seat in a STANDARD interior should be.

The upholstery I'm using measures 53" from seam to seam. Unfortunetly the seat bottom I have is only 49" frame edge to frame edge. It's a Firebird rear seat.
Now I know why the upholstery for the upper section seemed a bit large (wide). But not nearly as oversize as the seat bottom is. There's no way I can make it work.
I have the feeling I'm either shopping for a standard Camaro rear seat and eating these covers, or buying custom interior side panels to make the seat fit. Does that sound like the problem to anyone else? Firebirds must come with rear arm rests in their standard interior package. I'm praying the front buckets are compatible.

I measured between the rear wheel tubs under where the back seat will be and it's 47". Between the sides where the window hardware installs is 55".
Which interior came with arm rests in the back? Fold down seats only?

The back seat in my 68 ragtop is 48" wide, across the top of a complete seat. suppose you could use vert seat covers, but what'll fill the rest of the space then?

coupes don't have rear armrests?

Joe, you have two choices.

1.Buy a fold down rear seat and put the armrests back.

2.buy a used bottom (and top?) seat frame and use the cover you have bought.

This is assuming the the seat back is a normal full seat back and not the firebirds.
If the seat bottom and top width match the 48-49" range, get some armrests and new covers (I might be able to help).
if the top seat width is around 55-56" then use option 2.

Kevin,

After sleeping on it, my only real choice is to buy a Camaro standard rear seat top\bottom, and sell the Firebird seat.
I've already got the Camaro upholstery and side panels, and the upper section upholstery has already been installed. If I go with a fold-down, I won't get my money back for this upholstery and then I'll have to find all the pieces that go with a fold-down setup. KA-CHING!

I'd prefer the full size Camaro rear seat anyway. More room back there.

What prompted me to sell the side panels instead of hanging onto them is beyond me. I could have sold the whole kit & kaboodle as a matching set. Chalk it up to lack of knowledge and having to deal with interior parts from two different vehicles. Oh well!
