What kind of finish should be on the metal panel at the top of my 67 convertible doors, above the door panels? Right now the finish is a sort of vinyl substance, sort of a grain to it. I've seen pictures of other cars and this panel is painted a glossy finish. Which is correct?

Should be interior color...most likely the color of your dash, if it's original. Many will just go with body color for looks, since you can see the inside top of the door from outside the car. Also, body color may be the same as inside, or close to it. My 67 used to be Granada Gold with gold interior, but the interior gold was slightly different than exterior, and the doors were painted interior gold. Hope this helps. Oh, and definately no vinyl...
