: convertible shoulder belt install--pics
ckaram Jul 1st, 04, 03:10 AM Check out the links below for pics of my install.
I installed Ssnake-Oyl belts in the factory locations. The deluxe buckles looked pretty nice.
I did the whole project in less than 3 hours (no problems getting the rear seat out!). I want to thank Kevin W for all his input. He gave me a lot of direction during the planning of this project.
This site is awesome. I never would have attempted anything like this before joining this forum. You all rock!
Now the whole family will cruise safely!

click Jul 1st, 04, 05:22 AM Hey Chris totally fantastic job there buddy graemlins/thumbsup.gif
That turned out great and that smile on your daughter is priceless. Give her a wave for me graemlins/waving.gif
One thing, can you reduce the size of your pics to around 880 x 660 or thereabouts? They will be hard on the dial up folks to download when they are as large as you have now. I really love seeing the great digital pics myself and with cable 3Meg speed its easy to get them but Im reminded alot of so many that have dial up slow modems on TC here.
Thanks again for the pics and Kevin is great isnt he?
KevinW Jul 1st, 04, 03:53 PM Thanks for the kind words Guys! My pleasure to help.
Chris, Pics look great. I guess SO finally got what measurements we were talking about. :D
One item I saw from the pics, that I really did not go into detail about. The clear plastic sleeves are for protecting the webbing from rubbing with other parts of the interior.
Front sleeve is sandwiched between qtr int panel and top well side cover as shown in your 3rd pic.
The rear sleeve (which does show up in pics at the end if the webbing) is not in the correct place (unless you moved it after 2nd pic was taken). It goes between the metal seat back brace panel and the vinyl well cover. Just loosen the two screws on either side of the webbing and slide the sleeve into position and retighten the screws.
Let me know if you need more pics. I will be away from a computer for over a week, so now is the last time I will check here graemlins/sad.gif for a while.
Later!
ckaram Jul 1st, 04, 05:20 PM Sorry about the pic size. The camera is set on the super fine detail mode. Not sure if I can change the resolution in jpg. I'll remember for next time.
Kevin, yes, I'm going to call Ssnake-Oyl and let them know these measurements work! They did tell me they only had one other Camaro convertible in their database that they made shoulder belts for. I'll let them know ours are right.
I still have to fabricate the bracket for the rear seat back to hold the shoulder belts in place. I moved the plastic sleeves after the pic was taken.
Kevin, any ideas on the two brackets I'll need for the seat back? Got a couple laying around the garage I could take off your hands? Let me know. A couple pics of the bracket with measurements would help at a minimum.
Thanks guys graemlins/beers.gif
paulm Jul 2nd, 04, 07:14 AM Cool!!!
Here's my question, did they sell you seatbelts that were the correct length? You didn't have to lengthen anything (especially for the fronts)?
Foggie Jul 2nd, 04, 10:33 AM Very nice looking!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
This is something that I am looking for in my convertible.
Did you also get the plastic holders that hold the seatbelt to the rear side panels when not in use?
What did the front shoulder belts cost?
ckaram Jul 2nd, 04, 02:14 PM Paulm, I had to specify the lengths to SO. KevinW gave me the correct lengths. These are finished lengths and don't include the length of the buckle and tongue.
Nothing had to be lengthened. I'm 5'11" and 185 lbs. If you're bulky and tall you may want to take some measurements to be sure it will work. KevinW says this is how GM made them so they've got to fit the masses at least.
Here are the measurements for a set of shoulder belts:
FEMALE (buckle)
Fronts 48"
Rears 60"
MALE (tongue)
20.75" front and rear
You will also have to specify the correct color you want. I had them send me 3 samples of blue.
Foggie, I bought a couple plastic holders from KevinW. I haven't installed them yet.
Cost me $500, but remember I have the deluxe buckles.
Costly, but can't put a price on safety. ;)
ckaram Jul 2nd, 04, 02:17 PM $500 to Ssnake-Oyl, not KevinW! graemlins/clonk.gif
paulm Jul 2nd, 04, 03:12 PM Cool!
My two ragtops would be easy as both have black belts! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
So, they sell the "correct" buckles at Ssnake-Oyl?
ckaram Jul 2nd, 04, 05:25 PM Yes, brushed chrome GM buckles. Refurbished, but they look pretty good.
Here's a couple pics of some brackets I rigged up for the rear seat to hold the shoulder belts in place. I used 1/2" aluminum bar stock and bent them into shape based (somewhat) on the drawings on page 15-65 of the Fisher Service Manual. Not perfect...who cares it works!

hugger_sixty_nine Jul 3rd, 04, 10:12 AM Great Job on your belt install. I am just putting deluxe belts into my Z right now and thanks to KevinW who supplied me with some great onfo on the coding of them. Graet people and resources here!
graemlins/beers.gif
Question? Is there a web site for Ssnake Oyl?
Foggie Jul 4th, 04, 05:55 AM Here it is Hugger.

DROPTOPtimes2 Jul 8th, 04, 10:06 AM I wonder if anyone has installed some LATCH hooks so that the LATCH system could be used. I'm getting close to finishing my 'vert and I may want to put these in so my 2 girls (both under 2) can travel safely with.
