My glove box will not open even when I put the key in and it does turn. I suppose the key could be wrong but would the key still turn? I dont want to pry it open because it is in really nice condition. Is there another way to open this?
Thanks

You should be able to turn it to a certain spot and push in on it and the tumbler and key should pull right out. Then you can take a screwdriver and push the catch back.My 68 was the same and this is what i did.

I also had the same problem with my '67. I tried to open the glovebox by turning the key and then push on it. It didn't work because when you pull the lid of the box towards yourself, it 'pulls' itself even tighter.

There is one way to open it without tearing down your car, but you NEED TO HAVE SMALL HANDS!

Sit on your knees in front of the dashboard/glovebox and go with your hand/arm behind the dashboard/glovebox. On the top of the 'cardboard' glovebox is an opening where the lock holds a metal plate. I don't know how to discribe it in plain English, but it is a strip of metal attatched to the dashboard with a square hole in it. The lock on the lid of the glovebox has some-sort of pin that goes into the square hole. When you push the lock from the outside the pin goes out of the square hole.
If you can reach the strip of metal with the square hole in it (located on the top of the cardboard box) you can push (bend) it a bit down, or move the pin upwards, so the box opens..

I did it, but I am a small guy with small hands...
Goodluck!

big magnet with a hanky/thin rag between
the big magnet and the glove box.
I think the rubber pads help to spring the lid open, and they weken with age.

I use my fingers on the edge of the glove box lid,on my car. ;) sometimes it sticks,LOL graemlins/clonk.gif graemlins/beers.gif
