I ordered a set of new repro door sill plates......Did I make a mistake??????

I've never seen them before.....

I just can't see spending $50+ each for GM.....

I have the repos on my 68 and i have no problem with them. They look great and went in perfect. Hope this helps. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

The GM ones look worse than the repro from what I hear. The repro has a stick-on Fisher body emblem where the originals were rivited. I have a set of repro that will be going on my car when it gets back from the paint shop.

I just put in a set of repro`s. They look and fit good, but the aluminum is very thin. The screws almost wanted to pull through when tightened. I put a 1/4" washer between the door sill and the plate where the screws go through to back the screw. Worked well. Good luck, Brent

Be careful with the stick-on Body By Fisher emblems on the repros as they will come off, and you will lose them.. I speak from experience. Either remove them when you first get them and use a better glue, or add a rivet or something to hold them in place so they don't come off later. I rarely drive my car and from the few times that I got in and out, they came off, and eventually got lost. Not fun.

I use the 3M black weatherstrip adhesive. It works perfectly. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

It's more like $75 a pair for GM ones. How can the GM ones look worse than the repos?? For $75, I would go with the GM ones, the repos are chinsy.

For what its worth; I read here, about six months ago, a similar post. Some repro sill plates were made with the fisher carriage emblem
either backwards or upside down. Just something to watch out for!!!

I have new, still in the wrapper, GM ones that do not have rivets. I will either search for a brad that duplicates the rivets, or salvage rivets from some beat up originals, and drill and epoxy them in.

Repop sill plates must comefrom more than one producer, because I had a set that were horrible. The rough surface strips looked like 20 grit sandpaper! I sent them back and sprung for the GM ones.

Just as an update......

I received this repro door sill moulding made by corvex, and let me tell you, what a P.O.S.!!!!

First of all it comes w/o the "Body by Fisher" label, the flat corners on each end are not rounded enough, and to top it off, the screw holes were off by almost a quater of an inch, which made the outer edge not being able to cover the metal edge of the body sill.

I was thinking that only OER made these things, so when I got this Corvex thing, I was quite dissapointed. Hopefully, the OER's have got to be better that this.....

I hope this little episode serves as a reminder that all is still not well with the reproduction parts industry.......

I'm getting that great GM feeling again.....

I have the "superior quality repros" from Rick's First Gen. in my '68 and they kick a$$ !! These plates actually cost more than the GM ones b/c (as it was explained to me) GM cheaped up the later production replacements.

69SS350,

I hate stuff made by Corvex!!!!!! That is the most awful garbage that I have ever seen. I had corvex wheel well moldings that were so horrible, that I swore that if I ever got anything made by Corvex from anywhere..that I wouldn't even try them, and just send them back. GM stuff all the way!!!

I agree on the Corvex wheel well moldings, I had a set at one time, and they were so bad, I ended up buying a set of new GM on eBay for an arm and a leg, but it was well worth it. You can spot those Corvex moldings from a mile away, don't waste your money!!!! However, I must admit, the Corvex rocker moldings weren't nearly as bad, and the Corvex rear window moldings are pretty darn close to original. Oh well, you know how it goes, you win some, you lose some....... smile.gif
