Quick question...

I saw that Rick's has the "correct" gloss spray paint for the interior metal. In my case my interior is black.

Is there really any difference between that spray paint the gloss black off the shelf at home depot?

Also, how many of you put down primer first?

Thanks.

For 69, the top of the dash, and the reveal between the rear shelf and the rear glass is balck with the addition of texturizer, flattener, and, believe it or not, blue-green. I assume that 67 is the same.

They didn't use gloss paint in interiors. I guess it's to keep glare down? Spray can gloss is not going to look correct IMHO.

I squirted my dash, all of it and the rear package section on my 69 with EGGSHELL black and then covered it with a "satin/semi-gloss" clear to preserve the finish. Turned out nicely. If you go with the gloss off of the shelf from the h-ware store you will regret it. On sunny days you will be able to read the VIN number plain as day and the glare, really, is horrible. Point taken. Thanks. Just wanted to know if it was worth spending $12 for a can of spray paint.

I spent $50 for the correct formula non-glare paint, and another $50 for the correct formula for the rest of the dash. It's something that you can't easily do over after you put the car back together. I say, "Do it once, right." But that's just me.

I'd say you paid too much. Rick's first gen sells the correct paint color in a spray can for $12.

Thanks for the advice all.

Well Scoob,
I never tried the Rick's "correct" dash paint, but I tried their phosphate paint at $40 per can, and their silver cadmium paint at $20 or so per can, with less than desirable results.
I don't want to waste money either, but for something as visible and uncorrectable as the dash, I thought it was worth the money. But, like I said, that's just me.

I agree with UNREAL, do it right the first time. I went to a Ditzler paint store and bought a pint of correct top dash paint for 38$ and it looked great. After doing that ,I made a point of looking at Camaros at car events. I was amazed at how many variations I saw. The factory used this special Non-glare paint for a reason, so if appearence is not an issue, think of safety.

Classic has various sheens of black paint. I'm not sure exactly what interior parts you are painting but I used the "eggshell" on the top portion of my dash and it looks great.

Where I need to repaint is on top of the doors. Same paint? I would think. My dash is fine.
