Thanks

I had the same idea. I created a mock up out of cardboard. It had everything I wanted, gauge pod, shifter, cup holders, arm rest with storage, did I say cup holders.

I may still try to fab it out of sheet metal but that will have to wait.

Good luck

Bob

hmmm.. cardboard is a good idea. What about using 1/4" plywood and finishing it in vinyl?

Make your mock up out of cardboard. Take sheetmetal, cover it with mold release and make some fiberglass panels. Cut the glass using your templates and glass it together. Then you can cover it with vinyl.

If you do it checkout getting some leather instead of vinyl. I know a guy who can get you some automotive material at a great price.Best Ive seen by far. If you are interested email me markor1@attbi.com

I simply bought a console hugger from NPD that slips right over the stock console and it has cup holders, storage, and a place to rest your arm !!!

A lot of people use medium density particle board for mock-up as well as actual construction of consoles. It's pretty cheap and can be gotten at just about any hardware store, such as Lowes.

If you have a little extra cash (about $100) to spare and want to give your console & dash an added hi-tech look, then check out this (http://www.tapplastics.com/fiberglass/fiberglass_fabrics/169_carbon_fiber.html). It applies very easily and can be coat with this (http://www.tapplastics.com/fiberglass/epoxy_resins/160_ultraglo.html) for that added protection & appearance.
