I have a 1989 RS and am replacing the panel that holds the shift indicator. I'm having trouble getting the shift nob off in order to slide the plates up and over. It is an automatic. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The button in the center of the knob pulls up and out. You have to pull on that button and it should pop out. Then you will see a clip that holds the knob on. remove that clip and the knob comes off.
