View Full Version : Mustang...4 letter word?
thorpe67RS Mar 22nd, 05, 02:26 PM Ok i know i might get kicked out of the forum for mentioning the F or M word but i have a question. Does anyone know anything about Mustangs here, more specifically a 70 Boss 302. I have a line on one, next door basically and was wondering how valuable these cars were. In Camaro terms is a Boss car a plain jane coupe, RS, RS/SS, Z-28,... Any clue anyone. Got a chance to buy this car and was just curious.
67 Plum Mar 22nd, 05, 02:39 PM To A Ford guy Boss 302 is equal to a Z28.But like 69 Camaros contrary to popular belief all 69s wernt Z28s.All 302 Mustangs wernt Boss 302 cars.A Boss 302 has cleveland heads on it and other things. It will be a 4 speed and have a 9" rear end.And yes they are valuable.
thorpe67RS Mar 22nd, 05, 03:07 PM Yeah i know for sure it is a true Boss 302

thorpe67RS Mar 22nd, 05, 03:35 PM Ok heres the total scoop, or as much as i know for sure. Its a true boss car, doesnt have the original 302 or tranny. It has a 70 302 out of a Torino and a T6 tranny in it. Its all original sheet metal with only one repaint back in 1975. The rear quarters are gonna need replacing to do it right but the floors and trunk are good. All new global west suspension underneath it. Going to need a whole new interior. Overall the car is solid. I could probably pick it up for $8500, thoughts????
Rich69RS/SS Mar 22nd, 05, 03:37 PM Go to Ebay Motors and see what they are going for, and I'll tell you it's a lot if the numbers match.
Jeff H Mar 22nd, 05, 05:11 PM Verify the VIN to make sure it's a real Boss 302, then go buy it right away. That's a steal for a Boss 302 as long as it doesn't need a frame off resto. Non original motor doesn't take away as much value on Fords because the VIN verifies what it is.
novaderrik Mar 22nd, 05, 11:10 PM so, it's just another Mustang with a 302 in it. that's your baragaining point to get a better deal.
without the original "Boss" engine- it really isn't anything special. of course, you could build your own killer 347" Windsor with a set of Yates heads on it to look mostly "correct" and one up all the other Bosses out there..
thorpe67RS Mar 23rd, 05, 08:45 AM Verify the VIN to make sure it's a real Boss 302, then go buy it right away Its verified. I am reeeeaally struggling with this one. My first love of course is first gen camaros but i have also always liked the Mach 1, Boss style mustangs as well. Problem is im just not quite ready for my second car yet...but i know im going to regret it someday if i pass on it... What to do, What to do...
Jeff H Mar 23rd, 05, 10:41 AM What condition is it in? As long as it isn't a rusted out hulk, you should be able to turn around and sell it easily if you don't keep it. If you're not interested in buying it, let me know, my friend is a Mustang guy and he might be interested.
thorpe67RS Mar 23rd, 05, 01:49 PM Its definitely not a rusted out hulk. Its a solid car. All original sheetmetal with only the rear quarters needing to be replaced. Most likely if i dont buy it my buddy is going to. He is giving me first chance at it. I'll let ya know what i end up deciding. Thanks for the advice.
Jeff H Mar 23rd, 05, 05:22 PM The Boss 302 Mustangs were very limited numbers compared to the Z28's so they will continue to go up in value since there aren't as many to choose from. Needing work like quarters and paint makes it seem to be priced in the right range. Buying a Boss 302 engine can get expensive like a DZ 302 so I could see you dumping $20-30K into the car easily.
thorpe67RS Mar 24th, 05, 04:07 PM Yeah i have determined thru some research it would be at least 30k to restore this car the right way with all correct parts. There were in fact, relatively speaking, very few of these cars produced. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 3000 to 4000 from what i have found. Something like 1800 in the registry today. With all that said its looking like im gonna pass.
