View Full Version : Rear Seat Removal

I have a 68 Camaro and I am wanting to remove the back seat so that I can run some wires under the carpet to the dash.

Any ideas how I remove the back seat? I thought I should push back on the rear seat and then pull up. Is that the proper way? Not much luck doing it this way, and I can't really see anything so I was looking for some confirmation before I attempted to force it some. It could be that it has rusted some, but I am not sure where the hooks are and if I could even see them.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

Welcome Jim,

You've got the right idea. Instead of just pushing back on the seat bottom, try pulling up first, then back. There should be two front-facing hooks right near the front edge of the seat bottom.... one on either side in the middle where someone would sit. They're sort of C shaped, but they're tabbed at the top so you have to get past that tab.

Once you see the hook catch thats under there you can remove it blindfolded but at first time its a bear. Do as Joe said and here is a poor photo to give you an idea of what those 2 hooks look like. smile.gif

I had the C upside down. smile.gif
But pushing down first is the key.

You should be able to 'roll' it out of the hooks.... down, back, up and forward. Don't push on the padded part of the seat bottom, push on the lowest part of the seat frame at the bottom by the carpet.

The area right under the front of the seat is open, so if you reach under and feel around, you can find the two hooks. If you manuver as described above, right at the hooks, it will come right loose.

I usually do the push back and down part with my foot, with my butt kinda wedged into the open doorway, then have my wife pull it up at the proper time. Damn things can be a bear.
