View Full Version : Astro Vent Ducts
Codi Sep 15th, 03, 07:51 AM While waiting for my new (next) package tray to arrive, I started working on putting my dash/cowl area back together. I was just wondering, as I was cleaning up the old ductwork for the astro vents, I saw where the vents/ducts mount to the cowel with screws. On the end of the duct that protrudes through the cowl, it appears as though the very end is supposed to wedge against something or fit into something? The duct goes from round to an oval/rectangular shape. Does this just kind of "hang" in the cowl area sucking in fresh air or does it attach to something? I couldn't see another mount area between the cowl and fender area.

X33D80 Apr 25th, 05, 06:44 PM From where should I get these gaskets? I ordered the Astrovent rebuild kit and just got a piece of foam rubber about 18" long for my $14. I thought it would come with more gaskets etc.
Codi Apr 26th, 05, 09:38 AM Not sure where you got your seal kit, but mine came with a bunch of seals, precut. I would check our sponser, Ground Up and if no luck, I got mine from NPD.
X33D80 Apr 26th, 05, 06:44 PM OK, it looks like I ordered the wrong seal kit. Does the complete kit come with new seals for the butterfly valves on the fresh air duct? If so, I guess that you would drill out the rivets, replace the seal, and replace the rivets. The new rivets seems like the only difficult part.
Any comments from out there in Camaro land?
JimM Apr 26th, 05, 07:07 PM the seal kit I got from D&R was complete junk. The only things useable were the felt strips that keep the balls from rattling around, and they were not self adhesive, had to glue em on. What they gave me for the valves was a peice of floppy rubber, which supposedly replaced the valve that was there, they went in the garbage. I only had one bad valve, replaced it for $40, new one was nice.
X33D80 Apr 27th, 05, 07:35 PM Jim,
I think that I will return these useless parts that I bought and use misc felts from Lowe's etc. That leaves me in the market for a replacement driver's side valve.
ggkeller Apr 28th, 05, 12:35 AM I bought an OEM brand seal kit for my '68 and was pretty impressed with it. It even has the little screws to replace the rivets in the butterfly valve. Seemed like pretty high quality to me.
Codi Apr 28th, 05, 09:48 AM In thinking about it, the seals you asked about may come in the firewall seal kit, although I am not positive. I didn't replace the rubber seals on my "flapper" doors since they were in good shape. I just cleaned them and softened them a bit.
