I orderd a new carpet kit for my '69 today along with a few other things. One question I have is when the old carpet is out is there anything I should do to prep the floor boards? I pulled the carpet back on the passenger side front just a bit and saw it looks like gray paint with just a very small bit of surface rust in a few places. Should I maybe scuff sand this area and shoot it with paint? Also, when I get all the carpet out and do happen to find any rust what would be some suggestions on dealing with that? I do not anticipate finding ANY major rust b/c I can see from under the car there in no rust coming through and it is all painted.

I had the same problem, just a little surface rust, so I wire brushed, vacumed, and applied some rust arester, which, when painted on the rusty surface, turns to black primer,(Por 15 would work well also.) then I covered with gray primer, sound deadener, applied new carpet with a little spray adheasive and that was about it... hope this helps, good luck... smile.gif Mike

Thanks for the info zuma1211. I am also going to take a few pictures of the floorpans in this car when the carpet is out. I have my fingers crossed that all I will find is a small bit of surface rust. I have a collection of old quilts and blankets that I will use to cover everything when I do start to spray some paint. I will also use a few window fans as exhaust fans.
