I am painting the dash of my gold interior camaro. The color is almost brown. Does anyone have a suggestion for color and type of paint? Krylon? Semi-gloss? Thanks.

That's a tough one dee. I saw a very nice camaro with gold interior this weekend. But I don't remember gloss or semi-gloss question you have. I did notice seatbelt color didn't exactly match rest of gold, but they were original. Someone else had question about seatbelt color with gold. I think that's just the way they are. Good luck

If you can find a Dupont color chart for your year there should be a chip for your interior color. If you get a pint of color for a 2-stage paint and apply only the color and not the clear the results are pretty close gloss-wise. The paint shop can easily match the color chip. But, you do need a spray gun for this option and it's more expensive.

Dee, I strongly recommend looking in some of the parts catalogues. I don't have any at work with me right now, but can almost guarantee that someone has the correct paint in spray can form.
Take everything off of the dash if you haven't already, sand lightly with about 600 grit wet-and-dry sand paper, run a tack cloth over it and spray. I have had really good results doing it this way.
If you have trouble finding the paint in a catalogue, please write back and I will do a search for you. Seems like one of my catalogues has a whole page of interior spray paint listings!

Hi dee, just some additional info. I didn't have the same luck as denver RS/SS. I tried to paint my dash black but my paint kept fish-eyeing. Really, really bad. I'd have to let it dry, sand it down and try again. This happened 3 times. I was getting real pissed, then my buddy came by and said I'd have to take it down to the metal. The reason? Armour-all, and silicone based products like it. I guess it penetrates paint all the way thru. After strippng it to metal I had to wash it with grease & wax remover. That's the only way I could get the paint to lay. I sure hope you don't run across this problem, but if you do now you know whats happening. I don't think EVERYBODY used that stuff to clean they're dashes. Did they? http://www.camaros.net/forum/eek.gif

Thanks for your help. Yesterday, I found an auto paint suppy place in B'ham and they were able to provide a duplicate paint. Its a flat dark gold on top of the dash and a light olympic gold on the front of the dash.

You can also try using lacquer thinner or acetone to prep the dash before painting. This stuff really cuts through the grease and silicone, Good luck
