hey guys, i just thought of a cool idea. hows about putting a GTO shifter in a 69 console? does any one know how one of these things work? is it cable operated? how does it mount (was it set in the floor of the car, or bolted to the floo.) i like the idea of having a duel gate shifter with the build in gear lock outs. it goes like this right?

thanks all. there is a clean and complete unit on ebay, im thinking about picking it up. not unless its gonna be impossible to mount in the 69's console. i have no problem with cutting mine up a bit, everyother part on my car is repo so if i screw up no big deal.

thanks
Justin

The new name for this is a Hurst Dual Gate shifter. I ordered one from Jegs last week for my 73. Cost $198.

The Dual gate shifter is taller than a 69 Camaro shifter..

I put a Hurst dual gate (aftermarket one designed for 73 and up Camaros and Trans Ams)in my 68 Firebird console. It is indeed taller but I removed the brackets and installed the brackets from my original 68 'Bird shifter and ended up with the correct height. I installed the Hurst bezer/gate whatever you want to call it on top of it and it covered the hole in the console beautifully. I will try to send pics soon but my car is still in storage. Yes, it is cable operated but forget about the neutral/back-up switch with the aftermarket Hurst.

I am serously thinking about trying to put a GTO dual gate in my console. Has anyone else done this? Do you have pictures? Any better ideas for a auto shifter?
Thanks

I’ve taken one out of a Camaro before. As frank said they are much taller.

Yes I know they are taller but you can remove part of the shifter base and use a firebird base. Here is a link that got me thinking about this.
