Hi All:
I pulled off the steering wheel on my '68 convertible this weekend. Fixed the cracks with epoxy (worked great!) and now I need to paint the wheel. I am repainting it black. What "sheen" should I use to paint the wheel? Gloss/semi-gloss/Satin? What sheen would most closely duplicate the look of an original standard steering wheel?? I'll be using Krylon or Rustoleum spray can.
Thanks very much!!!!!!!!!!!
Dan

Gloss black lacquer will work perfectly because you want that shiney new plastic look. Rattle can enamels like rustoleum or krylon (my favorite)have their place but will not be good for a steering wheel. If you have no compressor or spray equipment, you can get an automotive paint store to custom mix a spray can up for you. Don't give up if the first store tells you to go away. A ditzler paint retail outlet would be where I would start.

The oils from your hands will wear away spray bomb paint very quickly. I would go black base/clear.Maybe a little flattener in the clear to knock the shine off.
