Hi All:
I am planning on putting a console with gauges in my factory non-console/non-gauge '68. I have a question on the wiring harness and hope someone who might have done this conversion can help me out. The bracket that I have for the console does not have the extra "tab" on it to clip the wiring harness "plug" to. (see photo)

I also don't have a base that has a "notch" in the front of it (again, you can see it in the photo). If I don't have the extra tab on the bracket or the notch in the base of the console what do I do with the plug??? Is there enough room inside the console (under the gauges) to put the wiring harness "plug" or would it have to be outside of the console. It seems like I would need the notch in the base so that there will be enough room under the console for the harness plug. This way it is more or less hidden as well.

Kind of confused on this one. Maybe some one that has done this can give their input. Thanks alot!!

Fixed your link...

I don't know what you could do to the console itself except to Dremel an opening, but you can fab the little bracket extension out of a thin piece of sheetmetal. Then you could either weld it or rivet\screw it to the bracket.

On mine, the console is actualy not down all the way in front. The bracket keeps it slightly high enough so this is not an issue. Trial fit the console and you will see this is not something to worry about.

Is your wiring harness plug actually hidden inside the console or is it outside of the console???

I have looked at alot of Repo Console Bases and it seems that None of them have the Cut-out for the wiring plug, The console base wont fit low enough in the front to cause any interference with the wiring, Also you wont need the Metal Clip with a Repo Base as the Plug wont pull out from under the console anyway.

So there is room in the front of the console for the wiring plug even with the gauges in the console??

Here is a pic of my bracket showing the plug holding section cutout. You can go under it or around it, plenty of room, graemlins/thumbsup.gif
