: 80/20 Carpet?

I'm in the process of looking for new carpet for my 69', all the aftermarket places I've seen so far have the 80/20 carpet. I'm just wondering if this is the only option, and if so, why? Is there a reason why it was made this way, and how important is it to be replaced with the same stuff? I just don't understand why it wasn't made in one piece. Somebody school me, please. KZ

Don't know about '69s, but in '67 and '68 I think the carpet came from the factory in 2 pieces, just easier to install that way. Mine stops right in front of the front seats, you don't really notice the line unless you're looking for it. It's definitely not original carpet though. Hope that helps.

You guys crack me up! http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif The 80/20 is a reference to the fiber (rayon/nylon or something like that) make up of the carpet, not the size of the pieces. Original carpet has 2 sections, but the fiber make up might be different. Kevin

Doh! I feel stupid now! I've actually read that 80/20 fabric thing before too, but totally forgot about that. At least I was right about it being in 2 sections... Glad there's people on this board that know more than I do! (and that's just about everybody!!) http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

See, you learn something new everyday. I had no idea. Now, what is the significance of the 2 pieces? Why couldn't you just use one piece and be done with it? That's the part that has me confused. I admit it, I'm clueless.........

I think it was made in two pieces because it would be easier to manufacture, store, ship and install that way.

the 80/20 is 80% Rayon and 20% nylon loop.

hehehehe ,

and all carpet is (2) sections, it is seamed under the seats in the middle. and the door sill plates cover it up. that is thick carpet, with the padding and all, it is MUCH easier to install in (2) sections. if it were (1) then it would be hard to manuver.

That's interesting. All this time I thought they did it so we wouldn't have to cut the carpet when we tub them. http://www.camaros.net/forum/tongue.gif http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif
