View Full Version : 68 dash pad
cpodeep Dec 8th, 01, 02:36 PM I just recently purchased a 68 big block car and it needs a lot of work including a complete interior. The interior is black deluxe and I was looking at Rick's to get a replacement dash pad. I noticed in fine print it say's not to use the chrome trim piece at the bottom of the pad with OER dash pads. Ok, so who makes a dash pad that will work using the trim piece?
The dash pad I have has the original trim piece that is in good shape and I would like to use it with a new pad.
Thanks for all of your help and I have really enjoyed reading all the comments, especially the one about "being puffed by a chick". I laughed so hard, but my wife didn't see the humor in it, oh well she thinks cars are to get from point A to point B.

Rsmith1969 Dec 8th, 01, 05:19 PM Scroll down to the bottom of the page and check Ground Up restorations, Or take the Dash pad to an upholstery shop and see if its salvagable.
ORENCH Dec 8th, 01, 05:21 PM I don't know, but the repro I ordered from NPD gave me the chance to locate the chrome trim piece, although not the best fit & finish. Try to send your original to just dashes for the best results.

IGOTTA71 Dec 8th, 01, 06:29 PM Soon there will be a repo 68 dash pad that is very high quality that will accept the molding. It will also be made like the original, not 1 piece as they are now. THe price will be higher, but the quality will be worth it.
cavemate Dec 8th, 01, 06:29 PM I was very unhappy with the quality of the repro 68 pads. The 67 and 69's are fine. I sent my 68 pad to just dashes. It cost me around $300.00 total but they charge extra for colors other than black and mine was Ivy Gold. 300.00 sounds like a lot, but when you see the beautiful results, you won't mind. The results are just like factory look pads and the chrome fit perfectly .

BrianW Dec 9th, 01, 06:43 PM I fitted the chrome trim to my new pad and it looks exactly like the original. I did not know that you were not supposed to do this so I guess ignorance is bliss
