Nevermind, I figured it out.. You have to install the ash tray springs with the lid in the up position not closed position, and on the OER console you are suppose to completely cutout the slots for the spring to slide into, then just make sure its an up loop on side that and a down loop on the hinge hookup side.
Also be sure to install two bumpers on the inside, the OER console doesn't have the tab holes drilled out in those areas like the original did.

Deb and I poked at that ash tray spring set up for an hour. I didn't get it. She didn't get it.

Can you post an image to clarify?

Rick.

Ok the two springs they sell are the same bend, they should be opposites but it still works.
One side slides into the groove created when you cut the plastic forward of the hinge mount hole. The spring sites in that crevis. Then going from front to back it loops UP and then DOWN and then touches the hinge of the actual lid when CLOSED.
When you open the lit it bends in a fashion to keep it open. The Factory Assembly Manual showed a good picture on one page, not sure what page it was.
Make sure you follow the up and down bends mentioned else the springs will snag.
