Hi, I'm having trouble with my 68 four speed. The brake and clutch pedal are super high making it really hard to drive. Are there any adjustments I can make to swing them closer to the firewall? Thanks.

View Full Version : Brake and clutch pedal height adjustment Green Hornet Mar 17th, 03, 03:22 AM Hi, I'm having trouble with my 68 four speed. VINTAGE CAMARO Mar 17th, 03, 07:17 PM There should be a rubber bumper on the pedal assembly for each of the two pedals, check and make sure they were put back and not missing. The pedals hit against each of these bumpers and will change the heigth of the pedals if missing. graemlins/thumbsup.gif Green Hornet Mar 18th, 03, 03:19 AM Cool thanks I'll check that out today. kristofer Feb 10th, 05, 07:18 PM i would like to lower the pedal height on my pedals as well.... i dont see the rubber stops... any help emailed to tofusayg@aol.com would be greatly appreciated Go69 Feb 11th, 05, 05:31 AM Depending on what the original set-up was when the car left the factory (4 wheel power drum) your pedals might be that height from the factory! I would not risk putting in a thicker rubber bumper to try and push the pedal closer to the firewall as you may cause a no-release situation with the brakes. I wanted the brake pedal in my car to be closer to the height of where the gas pedal is to make the transition from gas pedal to brake pedal easier. I made as much adjustment as I could with the gas pedal rod to bring the pedal up higher in the car and then put a block under the gas pedal to coincide with full-throttle so as not to damage my carb/linkage by over-travel of the rod. Then I installed a 3rd gen brake booster and master cylinder and modified the push rod coming off the brake pedal by cutting a section out of it and rewelding it back together. Now my brake pedal is MUCH closer to the height of the gas pedal with only about a 1" difference between the two (brake pedal 1" higher). This has made driving the car much easier as I don't have to lift my leg 6" up before applying the brake. I also could not get closer to the exact same height without compromising brake pedal travel before it hits the firewall. I think it is a great compromise! Several other 1st gen owners have noticed the difference and have asked me about it. This is a stick shift car and yes my clutch pedal is still very high! I have a hydraulic system and think I will correct the clutch pedal height next.. Fun stuff! |
