I'm finally getting ready to replace the heater core in my 69 (getting pretty cold out). It's an AC heater box (AC gone).
My question is what do I seal the inner and outer boxes with? There are no seals for this in the catalogs. Is it just sealant, like body seam sealer or something?
Also, does anyone carry the seals for where the heater core tubes go through the box? Mine are shot and I didn't see them in the catalogs either.
Thanks, as always http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

Joe g- I've always used some 5/16" windshield ribbon on the heater core box and it seems to work pretty good. Can't help you on the tube seals though, I've always used the originals.

Assuming you are talking about the kick panels, I went to lowes in the electrical section and bought the putty sealer electricians use. It worked great. Rick's carries the tube grommets. They are not cheap. I think something like $15 a piece is what I paid. Good Luck

I think it's the fluid inlet and outlet seal that he's talking about. Joe it comes in the seal for non-air. I would think it should be available for an air car as well. Call Steve's or Matt's I bet one of them can get it for you and you are close to both of them. You might also contact Ground Up, I've found the catalogs don't always list everything they can get or have in stock.

The A/C repro seal kits don't suppy the seal and they're differnt than non-air cars...Usually the seal doesn't wear out, but if so, try Home Depot..I found heavy foam stock in the door sealing section and I was able to fabricate a seal for the evaporator liquid/suction line seals, so you may have luck doing it with your heater core seal..

Thanks, guys. Home Depot here I come (again). I tried Steve's and Matt's and Jim Dyer's; no luck with the tube seals. I 'll try and make something from weatherstripping.
Guess joint sealant will work OK also.
Thanks again
Merry Christmas

I have heat!! http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif
Thanks for the advice, guys. The inner heater box came out with no problem. Didn't have to mess with the AC suitcase at all. Found some strange pieces of galvanized plate lying inside the box. No wonder it rattled!
Used some weather-stripping for the core and inner box. Used it for the tubes as well. It all went well.
Only problem was the local auto parts store only had RED heater hose. But at least I have heat!
Thanks again.
Merry Christmas
