View Full Version : i traded my Nova for a Monte- do i need a new name?
novaderrik Nov 25th, 04, 11:02 AM on Wednesday, i traded the Nova for a Metallic Bronze, 70,000 mile 74 Monte with the amazing 140 horse 2 barrell 350. a beast, it is not, but man, is it a cruiser.
so, do i change my name to Montederrik? just don't roll off the tongue like novaderrik does..
paulm Nov 25th, 04, 11:19 AM Ummmm, congratulations?!?!
67 Plum Nov 25th, 04, 11:20 AM If you change your name we wont know who you are. With the extra room under a Monte hood you could put another smallblock up front.
paulm Nov 25th, 04, 11:21 AM Ya, forget that twin turbo stuff! You could have twin engines!!
MangeMD Nov 25th, 04, 12:46 PM How 'bout ..

garfield Nov 25th, 04, 03:14 PM :D tongue.gif
Gary L Nov 25th, 04, 03:53 PM What does the Monte look like from the underside? I had a '70 Monte Carlo with a 4 speed. Never should have sold it. But I did and got a '78 280Z Nissan.
travis Nov 25th, 04, 04:29 PM I love monte's of all years when they was still rear wheel drive. I had a '77 (first year for the square headlights), and your right, them things are awesome cruisers and road trip machines.
MrDanB Nov 25th, 04, 04:42 PM M.C.Derrick ,
I love those old Monte's! They have a cool look to them. I especially like the 80's ss type! No, you won't be breaking any land speed records, but they are a comfortable cruiser with nice body lines graemlins/thumbsup.gif Have fun Derrick...

novaderrik Nov 25th, 04, 05:11 PM i think i'll keep the name..
Travis- the first year of the square headlights was 76, not 77. i had a 76 a decade ago- and it was a cruiser, despite having no floor boards or quarter panels left. but it did have a Northern rebuild kit in the stock 350, and air shocks out back with Keystone rims- so it was cool in my 19 year old mind.
as for what i'm gonna do with it- it's getting the iron head LT1 i liberated from my 94 Caprice cop car before it got junked, with a 4l60 (fancy name for a 700r4) overdrive tranny and 3.42 gears and 30 spline posi (and axles if they fit) i took from a 92 Caprice cop car, as well as the 92 cop car springs and front sway bar, along with the rear sway bar if it fits. might even put the rear disc brakes off the 94 on it, as well.
i already have a black floor shift swivel bucket interior with all factory gauges all lined up to replace the fugly white/brown interior it has now. it is comfy- but white and brown? who the hell ordered that interior with the bronze exterior?
i put 250 miles on the car today, and it just drives beautiful- except for how easy it is to exceed the speed limit when not paying attention.
sneakey pete Nov 25th, 04, 05:13 PM Congrats on the new ride! Fullmonty LOL LMAO
Hey dude now you have lots of room for intercooler and 2 - 2 stage turbo's with adjustable wastegates and a hot tub. Way to go!
Mod396 Nov 25th, 04, 05:30 PM So let`s see. It`s got a cop motor, a cop tranny, a cop rear, and cop suspension. Hey is this the new Bluesmobile or what?! Have fun with it.
hugger_sixty_nine Nov 25th, 04, 06:10 PM Post a picture of it. I had one about 12 years ago that was two tone beige and brown with tan interior. It came as part of a trade package and I only kept it for about 2 weeks before I got sick of that same engine and flipped it to a dealer for another 4 x 4. What dogs they were. But sure looked cool with the 15 x 8 Vette rally's all around. Hope it ain't the same one. (lol)
JimM Nov 25th, 04, 06:16 PM Congrats, I think... Is it a nice Monte? Always liked them, had 3. A pair of '86 SS's, and my favorite, a 75 with the one of the last 454's to ride between the fenders of a chevy passenger car. Damn, I miss that one, talk about a cruiser!
travis Nov 25th, 04, 06:43 PM I could of swore '76 still had the round headlights. In any case, '76 was also the 1st year for the killer 305 :D I know a smallblock under the hood looks like a toy engine or something in there...they swallow a big block super easy. Chances are your car has 2.56's also as that is what most of them came with. Your caprice springs, even if they are the right size, may not be stout enough. My '77 weighed in at 4300 pounds
JimM Nov 25th, 04, 07:42 PM nope, 76 was rectangular, 2 per side.
sixtsevnssrs Nov 25th, 04, 09:22 PM Had a 73, 400 bucket swivel seats, console AC and a rear defroster. Great car! I also had a 76 and a 77. 305's did not compare to the 400.
JimM Nov 26th, 04, 03:36 AM Monte that size really needs a rat, small blocks look lost in there.
ummgawa Nov 26th, 04, 05:41 AM Maybe you could get a new computer and be known as Dell Monte.
69-Z11Pacer Nov 26th, 04, 07:04 AM Keep the name!! What if some other Nova guy comes here and his name is Derrick??? LOL Identity Theft! graemlins/clonk.gif
novaderrik Nov 26th, 04, 09:18 AM i have a single solitary pic up on my webshots page of it now. click on the hyperlink in my sig to see it.
beware- she is a thing of beauty. just ignore the F**D truck parked next to it..
Everett#2390 Nov 26th, 04, 06:37 PM Nice looking ride, especially for Minnesota.
Condo-Cruiser! I know, I have one too.
RickD Nov 27th, 04, 01:54 AM Maybe you could change your real name. Hmmm - how about Zuma.
Monte-Zuma's revenge!
I like the idea of a big 'ol sleeper.
