Does anyone know how hard it would be to find one of the "Y" brackets that are behind the rear seat? I have a friend that bought a 1st generation and noticed when he removed the interior that one or two of these had been cut out for some reason. Does anyone know if these "Y" brackets were identical in all 1st generations?
Thanks,
Donnie

I think they are the same for all three years, but not positive. That's a cut that virtually no one needs, so finding a donor should be a snap. If you don't know local sources, I'm sure someone on the board has a parts car they could cut one out of for a little "effort money"

BTW, I would definately replace the braces...they are structural.

I’ve probably got one I could cut. I’ll check this evening.

I am in the exact same boat. Someone custom made a through opening between the trunk and fold down rear seat with a sawzall. I just drilled out the old spot welds. Called a large classic wrecking yard outside of Portland (OR), and was quoted about $35 over the phone for the y-braces. They were going to cut around the y-brace and allow me plenty on material to remove the acually brace at home. I just bought my welder and will be getting these pieces soon. Looks like a simple job and rather straight forward. Good luck.

Email me if you want me to break out the torch. I’m not in any hurry though…sorta like work to cut them out… graemlins/boring.gif
