I have heard some discrepencies on the 68 repro pad, I don't have my old one to recover so who makes the best repro pad? Fit is probably the most important concern, grain correctness is secondary. Thanks for the suggestions, SS

Railing 68:
I'm looking into a new dash pad as well and without my original one to recover, I have the same dilemma as you. I can't say that I've seen either one of them but after doing some research, (this site, the web, etc) the two after markets that "seem" to be the best are Rick's better grade pad and the show quality restoration pad from Camaro Parts Network. However, I understand from another board member that Rick's better one may have been discontinued or something. Going to give them a call today. I think the main thing you want to look for is the correct grain on the pad and durability so it won't warp on you after while and get that "ripply" look when you look at it through the windshield. I can tell you that I had a run of the mill pad from Classic Camaro(I guess the only one they sell) and after a few years it started to get that look. Might not happen to all the ones they sell but it did happen to mine....Holds down great where it attches to the top of the dash are but begins to lift off the dash in the areas where it is not attched. I'm going to contact Camaro Parts Network today and probably go with thiers. It's pricey - $289 - but they say you only pay for quality once. I can post what I think of it when I receive it if you'd like.

Check e-bay or other places for a good used one and have it recovered. I have not seen or felt any aftermarket pads that I liked. I saw the one being spoken of in Memphis at SuperChevy and was not impressed. An old pad and just dashes recoving it will be the better deal. In fact you might want to call Just Dashes and see if they have a core to sell and recover. Last time I checked they ran about $395.00 with core but that was few years ago when I had a 68. Well worth the money. These are very visable parts and a bad one makes the entire car look bad.
