I have recovered my back seat and the backs to my front seats. The bottoms of the front seats have seen better days. The foam has dried out and crumbled to almost nothing and the side springs have been broken. I do not want to pay the big bucks for replacement seat foam and I am wondering if anyone has "rebuilt" their seats. I am pretty sure I can weld the springs with a re-enforcing steel angle iron (very small), but the seat foam is making me a little nervous. I was thinking of building the seat up with one-inch thick high-density foam rubber, layering it to the contours of the existing foam. Has anyone tried this? I bought a big piece of HD foam that was 30x24x4. I have the burlap and the cottony like stuff. Any comments would be appreciated.

Man, all that money in Seat covers and another 65 bux could fix it. I have never tried aftermarket foam for the seat bun, the cutouts on deluxe interior would be hard to imitate. I have added additional padding to low spots, but check out

You can buy replacement side springs. They are not very expensive and are easy to install. I replaced mine on my car.

I would spend the money and get new seat buns. There are some things that aren't worth being cheap on and I think this is one of them. It will be difficult to tell what your cobbled-together seat bun will look like with the seat cover installed since the seat cover compressess the foam slightly.

After much consideration and have decided to come off a little bit of cash and get the foam and the springs. I was just trying to save a few bucks to see my daughter in South Carolina, I have not seen her for a year and a half. I know, sob sob story. When it comes down to it If I spend $1000 for a set of heads, what is $200 for seat foam and springs. Thanks for the advice.

You can take a long length of seat spring from a donor seat and then cut and bend it into shape for the seat bottom side springs. Then of course open and close the 1" clips to secure them.
