It's a 69 Camaro.

Well my seat is currently bolted down with 3 bolts... The 4th hole doesn't have anything (nut?) to thread the bolt into. Is there any easy way to fix this?

Thanks in advance,
Tom

Tom, Welcome to the best Camaro site on the net, lots of great people and info here, as far as your problem goes, you can put in a longer bolt and use a flat washer and nut on the bottom or try to weld a nut (and washer for strengh and safety) underneath...good luck and happy motoring! Thanks for the welcome Mike.

How would I weld a nut there though? It's sandwiched between the two pieces of metal. It looks like it would be impossible to do anything like that without separating those two pieces of metal, mainly because you wouldn't be able to fit the nut through the hole to begin with, right.

So do I just forget about it until I dismantle the whole car at some point or what?

Thanks,
Tom

I think what Mike was saying is that most likely the hole for the seat belt mounting bolt goes straight through the floor, literally exposing a hole to the other side. Just put a longer bolt through the hole and when it passes through thr floor, underneath the car, put a washer and a nut on it. Good Luck! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

If you are puting your seats in, you must be at the end of your restoration...a bad time to talk about cuting something off. None the less, if it were me, I would cut the seat mounting plate off. (it's spot welded to the floor) and fix the nut. Then reweld the plate to the floor.

After committing several shortcut compromises, and wishing I had not, my only advice is "Do it onece, right."

I would not drill through the floor and run a bolt through it. But that's just me.

Tom - You can weld the correct sized nut to a large steel washer and then weld the washer to the floor pan from on top. You will have to enlarge the hole in the floor bigger than the nut so it will sit flush. Just remember that this is what will hold you in the car in the event of a wreck. Safety first, err on the side of overkill.

Thanks for the ideas!!

It wasn't being restored. I just never bothered to fix it before. It's been sitting for a couple years now w/ a blown tranny. Getting a new tranny this coming week graemlins/beers.gif I just wanted to see if there was any easy way to take care of it without drilling holes etc.

I doubt that I will remove the seat mounting plate right now, even though it is the right way to do it. I like the idea with welding the washer and nut from the top. I'll have to see, after all my seatbelts are still bolted down real well ;)

Once again, thanks for the help,
Tom

I took a good look at mine tonight. There's a slot adjacent to the bolt hole. You could weld a 5/16 nut onto a fender washer, as suggested above. Then slide the nut and washer into position, with the nut down and screw a 5/16 x 2" bolt into the nut. The bolt is to hold the nut/washer in place, and also to keep weld spatter off the threads of the nut. When centered on the hole in the floor plate, there is ample room to tack the washer in a couple of places. That will be adequate to hold it. Then, the nut/washer is on the underside of the floor plate, and will hold better in the event of an accident. That's the way the General designed it.
