Hey y'all.

Has anybody ever used the Summit Sport Seats?

They look very reasonable, but you can't make a call on the quality or comfort with an online photo.

I thought about the Scat Elite seats, until I read some posts that said that the vinyl was very poor. Couldn't find info on these ones though.

I appreciate any help you can provide.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I will take any advice. You can even just make it up...I wouldn't know the difference. Do they look okay? Do you think they'd look stupid with a 67 deluxe interior?

OK.... They will look great. They fit like a glove, bolt right in with no mods and are better then Recaro's! They should be selling those for hundreds more.

All the above statements are made up but you would not know that. OK back to reality, I don't have an answer but I have been eyeing them as well. My biggest thing is, I want to sit in one before I will spend my money. I was looking at some Corbeau's and once I sat in a couple, I really didn't like them. Too narrow and very firm. I sat in a couple of Recaros and oh my, where's my wallet. That was until I saw the price. If you're will to take a chance, they look nice but I would not buy any I haven't sat in first. My .02 worth. Good luck.

I just finished installing my seats from Jegs. They are probably the same as Summit’s. I like the seats overall. I had to fab up some 1 ½” flat bar to make them bolt up. As far as the quality: excellent considering the price and they feel like leather. They feel like Corbeau’s (my neighbor has them) but honestly I like mine better. Medium firm cushions (I’m sure they will soften up with break-in), tilt forward and recline with a dial. For $400 they are the best buy I’ve found.

BTW, if you go to Pep Boys and sit in there seats, you will get a feel for them but the quality of materials is much better in the seats from Jegs.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Chevymike, I feel the same way about sitting in the seats first, but my resolve is starting to crack because I need some new buckets pretty badly.

harshman, are these the ones you got?

By way of an update on the Jegs seats:

I just got them last night. They look pretty nice.Looks and feels almost like leather. Comfort seems pretty good...with good support. I'll have to drive around with them to really tell, but they feel okay at first try. All in all they seem to be a pretty sweet deal, EXCEPT....

The packaging is a ten-pound steamer. Basically, the seats ship unprotected. They just recline them fully, and put a a very thin layer of bubble wrap draped on and not really covering them. They have three small foam blocks that aren't used to protect the seat, but rather to stuff the box where the seat would flop around. they look like they just kind of settled into a position in the box and did nothing. The result is that both seats are damaged, exactly where they were exposed. The side knob (dial for reclining) that protruded was broken off, on one. On the other seat, the vinyl had a scratch on it, and the sliding track was bent in. Bummer. I wish I lived in Ohio, I would just go pick two up at the store. I called Jeg's and they are crediting me but that's quite a hassle because I have to take them to FedEx to ship them, and that always annoys me.

I'm not sure if I will reorder them. The customer service lady sucked. I may order them from Summit if they tell me their packaging is different. I asked Jeg's if they could have a shipping supervisor open the box (one of mine came opened anyway) and just shove some newspapers in there, but they said no. In your experiences, does Jeg's always suck it up on customer service? I mean it's cool if they can't open them - I know that's logistically difficult - but she was kind of rude from the beginning of the call. Totally apathetic.

I do still want the seats, I just have no confidence that the next ones will be any better. Harshman, were yours shipped like this?

I'll update if I get them again.

Mike,
I can't comment on the seats, since I know nothing about them. However in my experience Jegs packaging and shipping almost always sucks. It has gotten to the point I will not order from them unless that is the only place that has what I want/need in stock. Every package I get from them looks like a 1000lb Gorilla played soccer with it. Sometimes they are half open but, 99% of the time the boxes are smashed and dented. Their customer service does not compare to Summit (IMO).

You might want to consider other late model car seats as well. I picked up an interior from a 2004 Honda Accord in black leather, seat heaters, power and lumbar adjustments. All for a price competitive with cheap aftermarket seats.

Yup. They were shipped the same. The box had a few tares around the sliders. I just opened the box carefully and thoroughly inspected them prior to playing with them. I ordered Jegs because i'd have to pay sales tax from summit.

As far as the brackets, here goes:

Flat bar ¼” x 1 ½” aluminum (steal if you want but you don’t need to paint aluminum and it is easier to “mold”)

Four pcs. @ 16 1/8” - ¼” x 1 ½” flat bar aluminum (steal if you want but you don’t need to paint aluminum and it is easier to “mold”)

Drill two 3/8” holes @ 14 1/8” on center. (1” from each end) this is what my ’68 camaro measured length wise (3/8” holes for 5/16” bolts – you’ll need some play)
Drill one 5/16” hole @ I think 12 ½” (what ever the slider holes are) and take a ½” countersink bit and hit the 5/16” hole.

Hardware per slider/bar –
1 -5/16 x ½” countersink Philips head bolt
1 - 5/16 thin nylon lock nut (I’ll bet Home Depot anit got these)
2 – 5/16” x 1 ¼” stainless steel bolts going into the cars existing seat holes
3- 5/16” cut washers

Bolt the countersink bolt to the front of the slider using the washer and the thin nylon lock nut (to get the most clearance inside the slider)

Bolt the rear seat/slider and aluminum to the car and do the same to the front. Make sure to remove any and all carpet and fabric etc. so that the floor and the aluminum are touching. This will help get the seat as low as possible.

Patients – installing the rear bolts with the slider will test you graemlins/angry.gif

Harshman, which part of town do you live on? I'd like to see your seats. I'm on the NW side north of Ann.
