I am the original owner of my Camaro and it came with a black interior. The front and back seats have a corduroy type cloth insert with vinyl trim which I don't believe is standard. Does any one know where I can purchase a new driver seat cover like I currently have? A local auto upholsterer said he can still get the corduroy type cloth but he wants lots of money to make me one car seat cover. Thanks for your help.

Ann W;

Welcome to Team Camaro!
The interior you are discribing could very well be original.
If you look under the hood - on the drivers side - near the brake cylinder/power booster - you will see a metal plate or 'Trim Tag' attached to the car. Please post the numbers on the tag in the order they appear and someone can tell you the model, color, interior type*, place and date your car was built if you would like that information.
(Don't worry - the numbers are not sold or given out and there is no way they could be used otherwise on here.)
* The interior trim number is probably 775 or 776 for your car - but this is a quess.
The Seat Covers you are looking for are sold by many Restoration Suppliers. The Official Sponsor for this site http://www.ss396.com/ sells them and you can use this link or the one provided at the bottom of the page to contact them.

Hope this was helpfull and be sure to visit the site http://www.nastyz28.com/ also for information on your second generation Camaro.

Ann,

I purchased a 74 Type LT Z/28 back in 79 from the original owner. The car had two problems early while under warranty. One the Z/28 stripe decals had to be replaced on the trunk lid and the drivers seat material split. In both these cases the factory supplied him with the materials under warranty and he passed the extra material on to me when I bought the car. Unfortunately that was many Camaros ago. I know GM used to have the material in stock for the seats and yes the Type LT interior had special inserts in the center panels of the seats unlike the standard vinyl interiors of the non Type LT cars. It's possible the seats you have are original. I'd try Year One also as a possible source for the sear cover material.
