View Full Version : What is this for?
CFunK Aug 13th, 03, 01:49 PM Can anyone tell me what the square with two holes is for on this 67' dash carrier. Lower left hand side of the image.

deejaygee Aug 13th, 03, 02:42 PM Optional defroster?
angelglo Aug 13th, 03, 02:48 PM that is for the power convertable top switch. it is sort of a weird place to put it. almost as if it were and afterthought. might be a good buy for someone on ebay.

shoddy_F-body Aug 13th, 03, 04:46 PM Angelglo after you sent me the link to your pics concernig the switch location, i looked at three different gauge housings, and they all have the cut out. Was the switch cutout on every car or just on power top cars?
angelglo Aug 13th, 03, 04:50 PM shoddy,
that is a good question. i never really noticed it on other dash housings nor have i looked for them. i cant answer that one for you. all of my cars have all been convertable or with sun roofs.

CFunK Aug 13th, 03, 05:05 PM Just to clarify, my '67 is pretty much original and the current carrier has the same cut out and it's a hard top. The carrier in the picture is actually out of a '68 hardtop and I am prepping it to replace the current one in my '67.
ORENCH Aug 13th, 03, 05:48 PM Don't know, but my 68 hardtop has it!
Everett#2390 Aug 14th, 03, 01:56 AM I've had several '67 & '68 Coupe's and they all had the same hole(s).
Codi Aug 14th, 03, 05:17 AM Just an EWAG, could it be there for a courtesy light under the dash?
angelglo Aug 14th, 03, 08:01 AM funk,

CFunK Aug 14th, 03, 12:09 PM So we are in agreement, it's the cutout for the convertable power top switch.?
angelglo Aug 14th, 03, 12:15 PM funk
i agree. i dont think the ones with the hard tops have anythink in it.

CFunK Aug 14th, 03, 01:32 PM Might be a good spot for a flush mounted cutoff switch.
boodlefoof Aug 14th, 03, 01:42 PM my '68 coupe has it as well.
1967 Panther Aug 14th, 03, 02:21 PM All carriers have it regardless if it's acoupe or conv. The same hole is used for rear window defroster switch. And if both power top and rear window defroster options were ordered. (Rare) another bracket came off that switch mounting area, and curved downward for the defroster knob. So if you ever see a 67 68 Camaro conv. with what appears like a headlight knob under the dash it just may very well be this rare combo!
CFunK Aug 14th, 03, 03:56 PM Great info!, thanks!
SY1 Aug 14th, 03, 04:46 PM Cfunk,
Panther is dead on as usual. Convertible top switch hole, the switch mounted on the metal that this carrier screws to. In the case of the 68 RS I just sold the optional rear defroster switch was mounted there. So on most cars unless it a convertible it is just an empty hole.

CFunK Aug 14th, 03, 05:58 PM Really, thanks for the replies and info guys.
I had also been curious as to where the swtich was on a rear defrost car.
Killed 3 birds with one stone on this one, good stuff.
