Anybody install an aftermarket shifter in their first gen? I bought a B&M megashifter and plan on getting rid of the huge useless factory console. Is there anyting I should know about this install that was perticularly hard to do?
or anyone know whats up with this console mounting bracket in front of the shifter?? is it bolted in or do I have to cut it out?

I installed a Hurst V-Matic2 in my 69. I decided to leave in the console, and make a custom plate that the shifter boot connects to.

As far as installation it was quite simple, drill a hole big enough for the cable gromet, and mount the shifter.

As far as the bracket, I know what you mean but have forfgot how its mounted in there. I didnt have to remove mine. Hope that helps.

You ought to save your console if it's any good. You could sell it on ebay or perhaps the classified section listed on this site...

I am in the process of mating my B&M quicksilver to my console. Just as the other post says, it will lookreal good when you get through. You will have to make a plate to cover the large shifter hole in the console, but that is no big deal. The console will have to be modified (hacksaw and drill). I would like to suggest keeping the console and going with the new autometer gauge pod. You can see it on their website, and ther has been much discussion about it here.

As far as the shifter install itself, it is pretty easy. Directions are good. As a matter of fact I have installed 2 mega- and 1 quicksilver. I don't remeber any problems.

Assuming a 69 is close to a 67, the bracket is mounted with two threaded studs on the bottom, that go through the tunnel, and have nuts on the bottom side of the tunnel. May be a little hard to get at with the tranny in the car.
