I am finally done installing my "DIN" stereo Pioneer DEH-P3100. It looks perfect, and IMO better than factory. By cutting out the stereo area to fit the Din square area, and spot welding tin in and matching paint in where the excess space from where the holes were, I got a perfect square. I had thought i was going to have to just install the stereo with out the outer face plate. But I did something pretty smart, I cut the plastic rectangle at 1/2" from the outer top going down. And the outer rectangle face plate looks and fits perfect. I will have pictures soon. But for all of you that said I could'nt do it and make it look good. Naa Nee Na Na Na. It looks better! I recommend using the model I did, The color of stereo matches the cars black interior and heater/dash gauges. Its not top of the line, but its like 2nd or 3rd down. So not outragously pricey. I think it came in at $279. Talk to ya all, and if you need to know how I did it email me.

67 Camaro LS6 454/TH400/12bolt 3.73

I had a Pioneer Premier DEH-P2000 installed in my 69. The install team used a type of plastic around the DIN CD-player to make it appear stock. Also, as mentioned earlier, the stereo looks better than stock.

Chris and everyone else how are you all doing? I have put the front spoiler on (what a handling improvement), Got my templates for my emblems, got my new back up lights and housings, and the correct 68 RS tail light chrome (Morrso) is coming in this next week. I am going to be putting all that stuff on before next friday. Then the first thing I will do is clean up my car from all my work and take some snaps. Chris, that stereo really does look great. The trick was not to cut too much off the bottom (about 1/8") and cut most off underneath the top (behind the brown cover). It pays to take your time and think this one through, take your time like I did guys!

Severe 67

I have a '69 Camaro SS, and I also wanted a good sounding steroe system. It seemed like the older looking with todays technology still didn't cut it. I bought a Kenwood with a flip face security system, and took the measurements of it. Then I cut out the plastic of the dash to make it fit. While try to avoid objects being thrown at me by my dad, as well as others Camaro fans, I got the exact measurments of the srea where the radio goes including to the edges where the original woodgrain metal trim went. I had a friend of mine cut out a metal template of this area, then cut out the whole for the radio. I took the woodgrain sticky paper like for the console plates, and laid the metal and traced out the excess sticker.

There!!! I had a perfectly good, original looking woodgrain metal trim. After this I turned off my radio and put the same woodgrain sticker on the back of my radio. Now, when its off, its hidden. Just thought that this might spunk some interest.

I agree with 302xram. I would never cut up my dash for a stereo. The engine and my friends are all the music I need when I cruise!!!!!

On 5 hour road trips from home down to school I need something more than the 2.5" flowmasters. Especially at 1 am and trying to stay awake. And my original radio and dash speaker dont cut it. If my car was any where near original I wouldnt cut it up, but its not so I dont mind too much.

Seriously, someone had already hacked the original opening...I just competes it and made the "din" radio fit.

My car was already hacked to sh!t when I got it. And most dashs available were in no better shape. If it's not near perfect to start who cares if you make it usuable.

When I bought my car and subsequently spent tens of thousands of dollars, I don't recall signed a "non-modify" clause to keep the Chevy gods happy.

I think the chevy gods died when the emisions requirements started in the seventies and ever since then its been up to us to take over where they left off. But I think we're doin as good job, I mean look at the new LS1 and the new Chevy muscle we're making. I mean its nothing compared to a 67 L88 Corvette (didnt they have 580+ hp) but we're getting there. I might be a "hack" but at least Im a true GM enthusiast. Im just making my car "better" or maybe more up to date. I have a '64 nova with a 327 thats completley original. I bought it from the original owner with the original reciept, every service reciept, etc. I would never hack that car in a million years, but I only drive it to shows and weekends. But in the end evryone has different opinions, its just good to see an enthusiast of some sort "hack" or not at least thats one less muscle car in the scrap yard.

Lighten up tples! Its your car and you have the right to saw it in half if you want, I still think its a shame people will butcher good stock parts. As you said "most dashes available were in no better shape".

I too don't like to see original cars and parts wasted especially with the poor quality of replacement parts. When I bought my car it probably should have went to the boneyard but I decided to build it the way I wanted due to the lack of quality repro parts. And for the record my dash is a complete bolt in and no OEM parts were injured during construction. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

The dash of my 68 is a COMPLETELY original mint condition 1999 camaro dash, not one single hack in it, does this count?? http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif For the record, the old dash piece was in perfect condition, I took it and stored it away nice and safe in my garage, I also left all the original mounting points JUST IN CASE I decide someday I want to put it back in.
