I'd like to take my buckles apart in a 68 camaro to get them free'd up and working better, any helpful hints on how I should take them apart. They sell replacement buckle covers so they must come apart somehow? Dwx4@juno.com

There are little tips on either side of the cover that go into slots on the metal backing. They are 1/4 in from front of buckle on the sides. Just take a thin screwdriver and gently (very gently, don't twist too much or the plasitc will break) pry one side up while trying to pull the cover up from the front. Don't try to lift up only one side. Do one side a little, then go to the other side and keep wiggling it up until it comes off. It comes off the front first and has a little hook in the back (like a hinge). But once the front is free it will come right off. Kevin

There was a good article in a fairly recent issue by the World Wide Camaro Club. If you have a fax number, I'll send it to you.

Well, the article is about taking the spring loaded recoil assembly apart. My mistake. However, there was a posting a while back on taking the buckle covers apart. A search should find it. Let me know if you still need the magazine article faxed.

Once you get the belts out, wash them in laundry detergent, you'll be amazed at how clean and shiney they look after they've dried.
