Guy's what's the best way to repaint a steering wheel and what kind of paint is used on it.

I’ve never had any luck getting paint to stick on a steering wheel for any length of time…

Hi Geezer, I redo my steering wheel, but to avoid scratches from usage, I covered the ring with a leather cover. It looks good to me, check it here, http://home.coqui.net/borench/wheel2.jpg

i glad you asked this question. on original colored steering wheels, were they painted or was dye used in the plastic?

The wheel was molded with colored plastic. Never painted from the factory....probably for the same reason you can't get paint to stick to yours.

I've always had good luck using a buzz can product from SEM(a plastic adheision promoter) primer.It goes on clear and you add a top color coat before the SEM is completly dry.Use light coats of color.Build them up slowly and remember to remove your ring/rings before driving.....
