What is involved in changing from standard door panels over to deluxe door panels on a 68 Convertible?

At the very least, the window regulator is located in a different spot. However, when I replaced my door panels, the new repros did not have a hole cut out for the regulator, so they may still work. I'm not sure about the door handle. The armrest hardware is probably different s well. I'm thinkin' 67, so I may be wrong...

You will need to replace the regulators as well. The deluxe shafts are longer. There are a ton of posts on this board describing it. One thing that I noticed when I replaced my deluxe door panels with reproductions is that the reproduction doord panels are thicker. The emblem posts are now too short. I have a power window setup and the control assemblies are too short as well. Anyone else come across this?

I my deluxe panels on my 69 and yes the extra thickness of thr replacement was a problem at the window cranks. Also at the door lock knobs at the grommet the tangs to hold them to the panel arent long enough. I had to remove some of the filler material.

see this topic,

it has all the info
from everything when we had a huge discussion on this issue last time it arose..
but since you have a convertable the only thing you will need are new front window regulators, the rest you have, just need the seatfoam kit and covers.

(BTW: it took me a half hr of searching to dig this archived one up...)

Related to this, I noticed in the year one catalog that there is a different part number to order the front window glass. Is it possible that the glass changes from standard to deluxe? I'm looking at the Year one summer 98 catalog.

As far as glass the windshield is different from a convertible to a hardtop but has nothing to do with deluxe or std interiors. Same with the rear quarter windows. Different between the hardtop and convertible but nothing to do with deluxe or std. Door glass is the same for hardtop or conv deluxe or std.

BTW, If the only difference between deluxe and std window regulators is the length of the shaft that comes out for the window handle then couldn't you just cut the splined end off the regulator and add the necessary piece and weld the spline end back on? Just thinking out loud and thats a pretty simple proceedure that you could do with just the door panel off

Old post again. But going to reuse it instead of starting a new one on teh same topic. I am converting and need a picture of a deluxe door on a 68. Want to see where the door lock knob is positioned. Should be near the end of the door like a standard but want to confirm.

no difference in door from std to deluxe , window regulators and door lock positions are the same , if that was different they would have made two different style door's , all the door's are the same ,

all you need for the swap is
#1 $ more money than you know what to do with ! ( HAVE YOU SEEN THE PRICE OFF DELUXE DOOR PANELS AND PART'S
#2 a deluxe set of window reulators (OR WELD ON EXTENTIONS)
#3 all the other related deluxe part's , door panel cups , door handles , chrome trim , emblems ,

THIS IS GONNA COST A FORTUNE !

and would not be worth it in my opinion ,,,

Yeah so its done already just not sure if the door locks go to the center of the door like a 69 or stay near the end like a 68 standard
