Has anyone tried the Covans Classic dashes? I'm interested in opinions before I plunk down $800.00 plus shipping on thier product. Thanks in advance. Scott

I bought the complete kit with the ultra lite gauges for my 69. I personally like the way it looks in my car. The dash is a different shade of black than the original, but I don't mind. I wish I had pics to post, but I don't. Installation was quite easy, however the directions for the wiring were a little off. I have no complaints so far.

psalm69,

I got a chance to see the dash at Summit the other week.... nice piece, but it is funny that they cost as much as they do(just a molded piece of plastic), but isn't that what a Fiero is afterall? :D

Anyway Summit sells them at a good price, but you have piece it together with whatever guages you want. It works out to your adantage to go that way and then order the Covans harness that ties them together.....

Especially if you wait until they offer another 10% discount code!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

What about the direction signals and hibeam signal lights? The covan site mentions these are included in the All inclusive package but how would you get those if you just went with the blank dash piece and purchased a gauge kit?

DenRS,
How was the fit? Is it comparable to stock? Were the bolt holes lined up? It's those little things tht can make the difference between a good product and utter crap. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts. Scott

Crossram had one of the first units out. Check out it out on my website... He used the AutoMeter CF gauges, and it looks awesome.

Go to my link for pictures not a bad peice, a bit of cleaning the plastic slag in the mounting holes, vent and heater control had to be done.

clash69, did you buy the 799 kit with gauges or the dash + a gauge kit? Did you bother with the harness or just cut into the stock wiring? Does the dash piece come with the directional signals and hibeam signal or is that part of the wiring harness?

Hey Scott,

Everything fit well, but I did encounter a few minor problems. The top 4 holes lined up perfectly, but I had to redrill new holes in the car for the bottom mounts. I also, had to trim a little bit on the new dash around where the vent attaches to it. That was it. Once I took everything apart, I found that my dash was very hacked up, so that could have been the problem. I also bought the wiring kit, but you still have to splice into the factory wiring for the turn signals etc. The only thing I was disappointed with was the turn signal lights, high beam, and brake lights. I was expecting the same set up as the stock dash, but they included little LED lights for those. I thought they were kind of cheesey, but I got over it.

I bought the black dash no gauges got those from summit, I used wire bug connectors to attach to original harness and left the org harness intact incase I want to go back to it. I bought green LEDS signals, red LEDS for brake, and ornge for high beam at Radio shack I painted some of the dash green to match the interior and found a roll of contact paper that matched the rose wood close and used that around the light- wiper- radio insert. Was happy with fit took about 4 hrs to make harness (used 2 -10 pin connectors from radio shack) just make sure you trial fit everything before you do final install, there is some trimming involved especially around vent and heater control

I dont know about the 69 butI bought one for my 68 complete and the fit of it was great but the so called plug right in harness that cost however much more sucked. Ya it pluggs right in after you convert the cars harness over to their little adapter that they give you and the directions werent that great either. It took me about 2 hours to get it installed but it sure looks great and i am the only one in town with this setup.

If it changes the 69's interior like it did mine then it would be worth it to me.

DenRS,
Thanks for the honest opinion. I must say that it looks pretty good, so I think I'll go with it. Scott

I put the complete setup in a 69 and the fit was great. I considered buying gauges separate and trying to save a couple $ but I'm glad I didn't. The complete kit comes with a nice harness setup that lets you unplug and remove the entire dash with gauges. That came in handy since I pulled mine out a dozen times while I finished everything under the dash.
