Just gotta vent! Close to 100 degrees today here in hell, I mean Texas, and about 90% relative humidity. I drive quite a lot for my job and get very thirsty, so I pull over to retrieve a bottle of water from the trunk. Thinking nothing of it, I leave my daily driver VW running with the a/c on (I'll be right back!) to keep it cool. Get the water out, gulp, ahhh! Go to get back in the car and on my way...WAIT! The darn door will not open! What the...I look into the car and can see the door lock indicator pin is up meaning "unlocked". Well, supposed to be unlocked but the door ain't opening. I think for a minute- cell phone, keys, phone numbers and money are all locked in the dang car! Hmmm, break the window ($$$), call a tow truck (will they tow a running car? is it wise?), call VW roadside assistance (free while warranty is valid- winner!).

So I mosey on down the road on foot, leaving my dubiously "unlocked" and running car sitting on a city street unattended. I find a business that will let me borrow their phone. Get the VW road side assistance on the horn, where is your car (I don't know); you don't know where your car is? (I know where it is, but don't know how to describe it to you exactly); what is the zip code? (I don't know); what is your call back number (I don't know, I'm borrowing someones phone since mine is locked in a running unlocked car!); can't you just ask the person whose phone you are borrowing? (I can't find them, they must be handling customers [law office]); please hold. Meanwhile I look up the address of a nearby other business and get the zip code then find the phone number where I'm calling from on a business card nearby. I relay this info to the rep who places me on hold for what seems to be an eternity. I put her on hold for a second and notice the call is dropped. (60 minutes total phone call)

I decide not to fool with another VW rep and another hour wasted and call a locksmith. Within 10 minutes they call me back and say someone will be at my car in 5. I trudge back to my car only to find a dang parking ticket under the wiper arm ($15)! The guy pulls up and within 2 minutes has the car open. I try the driver door (keys in hand this time) just like I got locked out- door remains unlocked and opens easily!

How in the heck can a door be unlocked and not open! graemlins/clonk.gif graemlins/clonk.gif graemlins/clonk.gif If I had been off the darn phone with VW sooner I might have been able to get some sympathy out of the meter maid and avoid a $15 per hour fee! graemlins/angry.gif

What a day!

Thanks, jethro. Now that my blood pressure has dropped down to normal levels I hope everything is smooth sailing today too.
