OH MY GOD!! I saw at least one shoot! At mach I just don't see how they could have survived I just pray that they did. THe ACES II is an excellent ejection seat but man I just don't know.

The guy filming yells a couple of times that he sees 2 chutes so I bet they made it out.

Yes they did get out and were safely picked up by the guard Helo. The F-14D has MartinBaker ejection seats, SJU-17 version's (NACES). The cause was a piesce of a panel came off in front of the right engine and the engine swallowed it. They actually had 35-40 seconds from the first indication until they ejected safely. Then the Aircraft exploded.

Awesome insite idox. I have seen first hand what hard pieces of metal can do to the compression blades in an engine. FOD is a Killer!
I just watched the video again in slow-mo and you can see when he banks to the right a little puff come from the #1 engine and I'll bet that is when he lost it. It is just a few sec later that the jet explodes.

69CamaroRacer,
That is what I do for a living. I am an Ejection Seat Mechanic in the US Navy. I worked on F-14's for about 6 years before moving on to F/A-18's. From what I remember of the investigation he had stalls just after going supersonic and rolled back out of the throttle. The whole panel did not come off, it just began to delaminate and crumble until big enough pieces tore up the motor. Thank GOD that M/B makes an AWSOME seat!
