Here are some early shots of the custom dash in my car being done by Detroit Speed and Engineering.

What do you think? Any suggestions on gauge layouts?

Thanks.

The links work fine. I would go stock gauges.

tples69, I vote for the tach in the center, speedo and fuel in regular locations, the rest of the monitors in a row along the bottom. Just my .02 Kevin

I followed your dash construction on another site. Very impressive so far. I particulary liked the front fender well surgery. It's going to be a special machine...good luck! http://hometown.aol.com/zz430droptop67rs/

Elmer,

I've been following the build-up on the pro-touring site, and I must say your car is fantastic! What kind of steering wheel is that?

BTW, I grew up not too far from you in Bloomingdale, and went to Lake Park H.S. back in the 70's.

Man that looks GREAT! Very, very nice!

Are there provisions for turn signals, blinkers, headlight switch, wipers, ...???

Looks like they had to fabricate a custom mount for the steering col. Is that true or does Ididit make a bolt in?

Regards,
Rob

Thanks for the kind words.

The Ididit column is available with all the necessary brackets to make it a bolt-in. However, Kyle created a plate that bolt's to the dash carrier to create a cleaner look.

The steering wheel is either a Budnik or Billet Specialties piece. Can't recall right now.

There are provisions for a windshield wiper and headlight switch, turn signal and hi-beam indicators and ignition switch.

I love it. I hope Detroit Speed does a bolt in version of it. The instrument panel is one of the big hangups on my car. I can't decide what to do. Yours looks incredible. What about the radio? does the panel have a provision for it?

Thanks for posting the pic!

Look's awesome, really nice job.

But why put the clock in the center of the setup? Wouldn't something critical like pressure or temp be more appropriate? Won't you have a clock on the radio? (Complaining because i'm jealous)

Have you posted pictures of the rest of the car, it seems like a mean machine.

The nice thing about it is as I start to use the car, I can move the gauges around to where I want them.

You can see more of the car at http://www.detroitspeed.com under projects.

Take care,

Elmer

Elmer,

Which model Ididit column is that, if you don't mind my asking?

Do you have an updated pic of the dash from the other side of the col?

Thanks,
Rob

The column is the one they sell for 67-68 Camaros hence no ignition switch on the column. I bought it last year and don't have the part number handy.

I don't currently have a pic of the dash/column from the drivers side.

Man!!! I sure hope that DS&E makes that dash available to the public! I must have that, it's so awesome. If anyone hears anything about whether they're gonna, please tell me.
Thanks,
Donnie

ZZ430DropTop67RS,

I was admiring your car a couple of days ago. I like it! Like it alot! Have any details on the Lokar e-brake install?

Believe me when I tell you I had a lot of ideas on what I wanted, I just needed someone to help me execute it! Enter Detroit Speed and Engineering.....

tples69, thanks a lot. The E-Brake handle and cables are from Lokar. Of course, I decided to do that AFTER the interior was already in! That's why it took me 3 days. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif The only hard part was getting to clear the driveshaft(3 1/2 in. alum.) and not too much above carpet level. The equalizer hangs down about 1 1/2 in. deep below floor level. The cables go back through the same holes as original routing, to the Wilwood "pucks". It has plenty of adjustment and I run 5 "clicks". Since I couldn't use a console (Richmond 6, Long shifter) I wanted to "fill up" some space there. PS whats the ETA for this project?

tples69,

just out of curiosity, How much has this cost you so far?, Since Detroit speed built the Twister, I take it either your rich, or work there and get it for free...

but it looks GREAT!, I could only dream of having one done like that...

heheheh

Well you are not quite right on either count! I definetly am not rich nor do I work for Detroit Speed. I work for a living as a Project Manager/Sr Engineer for a GE company and make a good living. I have children, a new home and other toys. Just lucky to be in the field I am in.

As far as cost goes, let's suffice it to say I could have bought a Z06, a Viper or a small summer home for the total of what I have spent. A good portion of the costs could have been avoided if I had a set plan and stuck to it. Just like in manufacturing, re-work is extremely expensive. I have/am selling perfectly good parts at .50 on the 1.00 due to scope creep or simple wants.

Take care,
