are there any 2nd gen f-bodies that were equiped w/3.23:1 gears in the diff? i want to swap in an axle already equiped with these gears. thanks for the help.

Not to my knowledge. In the camaro at least. I don't know if the firebird used a 3.23 during these years.

3.23 camaro usage 1st shows up in 1990 (a 3rd gen)

During the 70's, you could get a 3.31, 3.36, 3.42 and 3.08 (in the range closest to what you seek).

The 3.08 and 3.42 are (semi)common gear ratios for 2nd gens. The 3.31 and 3.36 are less common, since they're 1970 only gears, used in either the 8.2" 10 bolt or the 12 bolt rear end.

I say semi common because only Z28's will have the 3.42, or a high altitude car will have a 3.08, or someone used the "rare" performance axle ratio option in a base car to force a higher (3.42) gear into the car.

Typical 2nd gens have 2.73 (6 cylinder) or 2.56/2.41 rears (V8 sport coupe).

A lot of late 70's buick V-6 equipped trans am's came with 3.23 gears. I think it was the standard axle for that particular engine.

I have had 1 second gen Camaro rear end that had the 3.23 gears and a posi. That is the only one I have seen.

I bought a Camaro sec gen rear several yrs ago to swap into my 79 TA. It was a posi with what I was told are 3.23 gears. Seemed about right but I never actually verified ratio. After reading above, I will have to doublecheck since I was planning on using posi and gears for my 69.

Yes the 3.23 gear was a Firebird,T/A,Formula thing,it was available from 77 up on the Pont. F-Body 8.5 rear.

I got my 3.23 posi from an '81 Turbo T/A. Man what a difference from the 2.41's. Good luck searching.....
