According to Rick's First Gen Camaro parts catalog, the 1968 327/210 had the 5000 redline and the 327/275, 350/295, 396/325-350hp had the 5500 redline. I trust Rick's...

I prefer to trust the 1968 Camaro Assembly Instruction Manual. Option U17:

6468713 tach & clock asem
6468714 RPO L34 & L35
6468715 RPO L78 & Z28

All engines not listed used 6468713; 5000 rpm.

Correct, only the low power (non L78) 396's had the 5500. No non Z/28 small blocks in 67-69 had a tach higher than the 5000 redline
