I'm a first generation lover by heart, but I aquired an '80 with some front end problems, and I have access to a '70 or '71 subframe (complete)for the right price. My question is,will it fit?

Well, both being 2nd gens I would guess yes, it should fit.

There is a difference in the subframes. Don't recall what it is. try posting here: http://www.nastyz28.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro

I think the core supports are different between 70 and 80 where they bolt to the sub-frame. Easiest way to find out would be to take photos and compare them to your 80.

There are 3 distinct 2nd gen subframes...
70-73 (no bolt holes for 74-77 bumpers)
74-75 (will bolt on to 70-73 but does have the extra holes)
76-81 (longer will NOT bolt to '70-75 cars, and vice versa, although radiator support IS in the same place requires different tranny cross member as well)
Firebird? well bolting on is the same (yearwise) but radiator support is in a different place, and length is slightly different.

I always thought the 74-81's should've been 3rd gens. http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif LOL If the frames don't fit, it's a new generation. http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif
