i put 350 HO crate motor in my 68 and i set the old 327 aside. i would rather reuse the stock crank if i can but figured everything else goes, gets bored, decked, etc. im looking to build it up slowly and have plenty of time. can anyone suggest a good reference book or some general info to get me started. i want to build the engine for street/strip.

There are two books I have found that are useful. They are "How to Rebuild Your Small Block Chevy" and "How to Hot Rod Your Small Block Chevy". I think both were written by David Vizard, who is widely known as someone that knows a lot about engines. My copies are black with oil stains and have so many dog earred pages its hard to tell where things are any more.

I have the first one and it's a very good book. Highly recommended.

I have those books!, great helpers. mine too are stained from "garage life" but thats how it goes...
you can still get rebuild kits with cranks from summit or other parts places for around 300 (no crank) and 5-600 with crank for the 327.

I've got the second book! (But still no engine/car to work on so it is brand new and no oilspots on it http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif LOL)
It is a very good book, even I understand how to do things now....thus it must be good! http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif
