Tried to watch my Redwings Sunday on Fox Sports since they purchased the exclusive rights to all the first and second round (if necessary) games. No game! A quick check showed ESPN was also listed to carry the game. Remote to ESPN....NO Game! The menu said it was on, but it was volleyball on one channel and sports news on ESPN. Turns out FOX Sports threatened to sue ESPN if they carried the game, so ESPN blacked it out. The kicker is FOX Sports decided not to carry it either, instead they gave it to a small local affiliate inside Detroit to broadcast. Great if you live within 40 miles of the city.

Isn't it amazing how the lawyers get involved and screw up another of lives simple pleasures. This is something that didn't have to be resolved at the last minute like this because everyone knew for weeks that ESPN was planning on airing the game along with FSN. I just don't get it. Well I'm going to see if either of the two are brave enough to broadcast game 4 tonight. Sorry to vent, maybe it's time for the Dish, I understand most Dish users watched the game.

Not sure what system you are on, but I watched the wings on Fox 2, just like my brother and everyone else I know. ESPN is ALWAYS blacked out when there is a local broadcast...

p.s. The Wings really sucked tonight in game 4...lots of shot, but very few quality chances.

I'm on Charter. In the paper tonight they explained why the game was blacked out except for a 50 mile radius of Detroit. ESPN failed to notify the NHL they were going to honor FSN's rights to broadcast the game and then FSN decided not to air the game, instead allowing their local affiliate Channel 2 Detroit to broadcast it and leaving most people outside of the Detroit area blacked out. It looks like it comes down to Fox Sports being awarded a contract and then not honoring it.

Anyways you're right Redwing are outshooting them badly, but like you said they aren't quality chances. They are desperately throwing the puck at the net. I give Nashville credit they've owned the Wings all season. They don't sit back and wait for the Wings to bring the puck up ice. They've always got two forecheckers deep in Detroit territory, even when the Predators are short handed, they own the nuetral zone, take away Detroits passing game and force them to carry it across center ice and dump it in. They've really shut the door on the Wings. It isn't a hot goaltender problem like last year, I wish it were. That would indicate that at least the offense can get moving. Right now Detroit's forwards are all stymied. It doesn't look good when you figure Detroit didn't deserve to win game 2, only by the fluke that Nashville kicked the deciding goal into their own net did Detroit come away with a victory. Wings could easily be down 1-3 games right now. They need to find a way to work the puck into the center of Nashville's ice or it'll be another early out for the Wings.

What is "Hockey" :D (Go Sharks graemlins/thumbsup.gif )

Sorry you didn't get the game - living less than 20 miles (using the long established "Crow" method) from the Oakland "Traders" what-ever-it-is-called-now Stadium and never getting to see their home games either I can feel you pain - sort of...

Thinking through the Dish v.s. 'Hard-plumbed' entertainment provider issue right now myself.

It's all about $$ any more :(

While this has been true for many years now, it really hit home at the Tiger game last Saturday. Beautiful day downtown, temps near 60 and Sunny, then we pay $8.50 for a big draft beer  graemlins/clonk.gif

That's just one of the many reasons I don't support organized Sports!!

When one beer costs more then a six-pack, it's time to go figure out something else to do...

They have alotta respect for the fan when you are stupid enough ta pay that much money for a beer, imho!!

DID YOU GET KISSED as they stuck it to you???
