I have a problem when I am going down the highway and I start to pass 70-75 mph. The car begins to shake. I was told it might be wheel or tire balancing. What else could it be or is that the problem? I don't want to take it to a tire shop to have them charge me for balancing when I dont need it.

Could also be driveshaft or tailshaft bearing - it's common on old cars to have a worn bushing in the tranny tailcone. A slightly out of balance driveshaft combined with a worn bushing will make a nice driveline vibration. Usually this vibration starts around 55 to 60 mph and disappears above 65 or 70 - I suppose it depends on what rear end gear you have too.

To check for a worn tailshaft bearing just grab the driveshaft by the front U-joint and try to wiggle it side to side. More than .050" is bad. Not hard to fix - just pull the tail cone and take it to a trans shop and have a new one pressed in. Take a close look at the driveshaft yoke because if it has been vibrating for a long time chances are the yoke is worn too.

It seem like its coming from the front end because I can feel it in the steering wheeel.

maybe the front end needs alignment, my dad had that problem in our '39 chevy w/ front subframe from a early 70's camaro, about 70mph it started to shake. also check for worn parts in the steering linkage before you get it aligned

If you feel it in the steering wheel it is one of 3 things: balancing,shifted belts on radial tires, or front-end alignment.
You could try moving front wheels to back and back to front to see if there is difference.Visually inspect sidewall for shifted belt or rubber and check tread for wear pattern in front tires.While your at it check for bent rims also.Check front wheel bearings as well. If everything looks good have front end re-aligned.Start with the simple stuff first it's cheaper that way.
