I have a noise coming from the area of my torque convertor. i thought it was a loose flywheel bolt but all three are tight. it sounds diffrant in every gear. could it be one of the flywheel bolts to the crank. i did the wooden dowel trick to the tranypan and oilpan it didn't sound like it came from there, any ideas, i really would not have to pull engine to check stuff out.

What and when does it sound like that? I've got a Th-400 with a B&M 500rpm over stock stall converter, governer recalibration kit, and a shift improver kit, in my 86 chevy pick-up. Mine makes this weird grinding noise sometimes when it shifts under heavy acceleration. The sound changes pitch with rpms and pretty much only when I give it more gas.

p.s. what's the wooden dowel trick?

only checked under idle, haven't check while driving yet.

you take a peace of dowl you put one to a surface to check for noise and the other end to your ear, like a stethiscope.

Why not just use a stethoscope?
