From the outside my tank looks alright. No rust or cracks but I'm pretty sure there was gas sitting in it for over a year. Its all emptied out and I dont and cant, without a shop, open it up. Just by looking in how can I tell what condition the tank is in. Or is there anything I can do to improove the condition.
Thanks
Tim

If you use a small brass bar or wrap a piece of cloth over a ratchet extension and use a hard plastic hammer, there will be no sparks. This may sound like overkill but it's what I do. Use these to unscrew the sending unit cap and look inside with a flashlight. If you see scale or rust pieces it's possible to clean and seal the tank. Eastwood and POR15 make good products. Another choice is to buy a new repro tank. They're not too expensive and then it's all new.

Mine is at the radiator shop getting boiled out to clean it inside and out. I have a lot of crud in there. Nice to know I can get some of the dents out of it.
