This is something I overheard someone mention in a private coversation. If this is tue,is it nationwide, or is it only in certain states?

I see the steel cage type (no body) with tags on the road around here in SC all the time. Can't say I've seen any of the old fiberglass bodys in a long time. I don't see where there would be much difference between them and some of the other kit cars on the road today. But I don't actually know what the Law says.

My next door neighbor just bought a vacation house in Arizona, while he was down there (bored) he went out and bought a dune buggy and he drives it on the street down there. I know there are a few in town here as well. So I guess they are legal in Arizona and California for sure, I don't know about other states.

Are you talking about the kits you replace a VW bug body with? The ones that are fiberglass with the bright glitter gelcoat finish (like a ski boat), no doors and a chrome roll bar. They were a kit car back in the day and the dmv had requirements on kit cars then and they still do today. Every once in a while I see one around here, I doubt they are outlawed, they just have to meed dmv requirments for kit cars or home made vehicles...

I see them sometimes in Eastern Washington...
I think most of them are sitting in backyards rotting away as they're not as "cool" as they once were, although I think they're still fun to cruise around in...

I found a complete dual-port motor for $40.00; anybody have a VW Bus transmission laying around for sale?

Baldwin-Motion built and sold a bunch of buggys as a spin off of the Muscle car business.

Let's ask Joel. :D
