Does anyone have any ideas as to where to mount a fuel pump where the noise is not amplified by the body?

I have a SX EFI pump mounted to the truck floor, between the fuel tank and the rear axle. The SX is about the size of a Fosters 22oz can.
The car sounds like there is a chain saw in the trunk.

Thanks

I know exactly what you mean. You cant hear yourself think. Mines on a 69 camaro and if you find a rsolution to the problem let me know. I was thinking maybe a ruber bushing of some sort to dampen it. ???

cut a thin rubber "gasket" that matches the
mounting flange.

Bakerdude, you're on the right track with the rubber mount idea. Often referred to as isolation dampers, soft rubber about 1/2" thick mounted under the attaching points of the pump will quieten it considerably. Do the same to the straps holding the fuel line

You can also go to the local A/C & Heating parts store and get double studded isolators for about a $1 apiece.

Those are great ideas for mounting the pump. I guess the pump will need a ground strap to go from the car frame to the pump in addition to the rubber isolation?

convert to an in tank pump? that is why the OEM's use them- they are quiet.

The pumps they used on the older Volvos, 75-1985, great little Bosch units. One of these will run 30 years easy. Externally mounted and quiet. They do need a pressure reducing valve as they can run high pressures, and that is also available on any fuel injected Volvo.

The sx pump comes with a mount that is two aircraft style clamps with a rubber strip to go around the pump.

I dont know if anything other than a isolated bracket would be able to quiet the thing down.

How well do the isolators from the HW store hold up to gasoline?

I run the external Aeromotive pumps with the rubber insulators like you use on an MSD installation; they're VERY quiet. This topic came up on the EFI board of Chevytalk and Aeromotive was the overwhelming pick including Doug F from Holley EFI and Craig Smith from FAST.
