View Full Version : Front bumper brackets up-side down?

Guys,

I just got my 68 back from the body shop and am putting all the trim back on. I replaced the front corner rubber cushions and now the bumper doesn't seem to want to fit.

The corner brackets have the big hole for the bushings on the top - toward the rear of the car. Is this right or are they bass-ackwards?

Thanks

The section of the bracket with the large mounting hole should be towards the front of the car. It is possible to put them in backwards. It sounds like you'll have to switch them from one side to the other.

Don't know about your missalignment but in my car I had to trim the rubber cushions ± 1/4". They were repro and seems to be too thick, the bolt did't cross them at all.

Orench - I hope that isn't the case here. I do have repop mounts from Classic industries. If I get the brackets installed right and the bumper still doesn't fit I'll try the trimming option. As it stands now neither side is remotely close to lining up.

Kyvox - I now understand that the hole goes toward the front of the car, but does the hole wind up on top or on the bottom? At this point I am assuming top and that they are switched side-to-side, but could they be upside-down?

Thanks for the replies.

Eric
As the bracket comes off of the body, it should go up amd then bend down where the mounting hole is. So, looking at it from the front the bracket is kind of like this /\.

As Kyvox says, it looks like an inverted "V" from the front of the car. The hole is towards the "front" of the vehicle, the shape of the fender gap and the shape of the bumper should lead you as how the bracket goes.

Got it. Thanks. Looks like the body shop got them switched side-to-side.
