View Full Version : Anybody using late-model mirrors on their first-gen?

I have been thinking that it would be cool to transplant some late-model rear-view mirrors on a first-gen. The ones on the doors, not the windshield. I would like different mirrors to try and eliminate some of the blind spot, to update the look of the car, and to also have power-adjustable mirrors.

Has anyone tried this? What mirrors did you use?

Here's a discussion of one option, C5 mirrors-there's a link within to some pictures:

Pretty good idea. I've already had one accident because of poor visability. I would be interested if anyone has used anything other than C-5 mirrors.

I've been thinking about this too. I am currently leaning toward the 2nd Gen sport mirrors as I already have one and a matching passenger side one should be easy to find.I quite like how they look when they are painted up to match the bodywork. I know not everyone agrees. I also looked at 3rd gen RX7 mirrors as they look very similar to the C5 ones but aren't quite so large. The C5 mirrors are a tad too big IMHO.

I am using iroc mirrors on my 69. They look really good and have had alot of comments on them. Visibility is alot better too. You can take a look at them in the info exchange part of this web site. the title is MY69RS.

You might want to look at Viper mirrors. They are pedestol type mirrors and may work well. I love the C5 mirrors on my car.

Take care,

I would forget 2gen mirrors. They are tiny by modern standards, so if improving visibilty is your goal I would look elsewhere.

If visability is what your after Autozone has some really nice stainless West Coast truck mirrors. You can get them heated also. LOL http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

tples69,

Can you provide a little more detail on your Corvette mirror conversion? How hard was it to modify the mirror? Did you use a Dremel or similar tool to change the contour of the base? How does the Corvette mirror mount in comparison to the 1st gen mirror?
